Digvijaya Singh slams MP Govt over Guna SP transfer

“Why do haters always want to dance in front of Mosques?”

Bhopal: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh has strongly criticized the Madhya Pradesh government for transferring the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Guna district. Taking to social media platform X, Singh alleged that the officer was removed because action was taken against a BJP councilor involved in disturbing communal harmony.

Singh wrote, “The BJP councilor had tried to incite tensions in the city in the past as well, but each time, BJP leaders stepped in to shield him. Now, because action was taken against him, the SP is being punished.”

He further questioned the arrest of Muslim youth based on the councilor’s complaint, asking, “Is this justice? And why do those who spread hate always feel compelled to dance in front of mosques? This is a matter that deserves deeper inquiry.”

The incident: Communal tensions during Hanuman Jayanti procession

The controversy stems from an incident on Hanuman Jayanti, when a procession from Shivaji Nagar’s Mata Mandir in Guna reached the Karnalganj area around 7:30 PM. The procession, led by loud DJ music and dancing youths, paused in front of a mosque.

Soon after, stones were allegedly thrown at the procession, sparking chaos and stone-pelting from both sides. Following the incident, BJP councillor Omprakash Kushwaha (aka Gabbar) lodged a complaint, leading to an FIR against five named and 15–20 unidentified individuals, with nine arrests made.

Singh’s remarks highlight growing concerns about the politicization of law enforcement and communal polarization, especially when police officers face consequences for impartial action.

As tensions simmer, the incident has once again brought to light the delicate balance between law, religion, and political influence in sensitive regions of Madhya Pradesh.
