Bhopal: Congress spokesperson Praveen Dholpure warned on Wednesday that recent disclosures from Haryana have shaken the foundations of India’s electoral democracy. Echoing allegations made publicly by Rahul Gandhi, Dholpure said the photograph of a Brazilian model appears repeatedly on the state’s electoral rolls reportedly listed under different names such as Seema, Sweety, Saraswati and Vimla and has been recorded as appearing 22 times across ten polling booths in one constituency. He described the discovery as “not an ordinary irregularity but organised evidence of an assault on democracy.”
Dholpure demanded immediate forensic scrutiny of the relevant voter lists and the implicated booths, urged the suspension or dismissal of any administrative officers found culpable, and insisted on a high-level special investigation team to expose the alleged racket. He questioned how the image entered the register, who prepared the purportedly fake identity documents, and why the Election Commission and local administration have so far remained silent.
Describing the matter as a fight for every Indian’s franchise, Dholpure said Congress would pursue the issue from Parliament to the streets and called on the Election Commission to publish an impartial public report. The allegations have already prompted wide national media coverage and sharp partisan exchanges.
