Dhiraj Bommadevara’s Olympic dreams dashed by a whisker

Paris, (UNI) In a nail-biting spectacle at Les Invalides on Wednesday, India’s archery sensation, Dhiraj Bommadevara, faced a gut-wrenching near miss as he fell just short of securing a pre-quarterfinal spot in the men’s individual event.

The 22-year-old archer, who had been riding a wave of impressive performances, clashed with Canada’s Eric Peters in a round of 32 duel that had spectators on the edge of their seats. The match was a rollercoaster of tension and precision, ultimately ending in a dramatic 6-5 scoreline after a fierce shoot-off.

In a display of near-perfect accuracy, both Bommadevara and Peters each hit six 10s, pushing the competition to the limit. However, Bommadevara’s final shot, which registered a nine, led to the nerve-wracking shoot-off. Despite both archers nailing perfect 10s in the tiebreaker, Peters clinched victory with his arrow landing just millimeters closer to the bullseye.

Earlier, Bommadevara had dazzled with his prowess, decisively defeating Czechia’s Adam Li 7-1 in the round of 64. After a challenging start to the Olympics in the men’s team event, Bommadevara’s form was nothing short of spectacular, as he hit 10s on seven of his 12 shots.
