DGCA grants aerodrome licence to Noida International Airport at Jewar

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued an aerodrome licence to Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) for the Noida International Airport located at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Budh Nagar district, clearing the way for the airport to begin commercial flight operations.

Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu said the project will enhance connectivity in the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh, boost tourism, attract investment, and help reduce congestion at existing airports in the region.

The airport has been developed by YIAPL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Centre.

The concession period for the project began on October 1, 2021, and will run for 40 years.

The airport has been licensed under the Public Use category for all-weather operations. It features a runway with orientation 10/28 measuring 3,900 metres in length and 45 metres in width.

The facility is equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL), enabling round-the-clock operations.

An officer said the aerodrome currently has parking stands for 24 Code C aircraft and two Code D/F aircraft. It is also equipped with Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Category 9 facilities, making it capable of handling wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300ER.

The Noida International Airport is being developed in four phases along with a multi-modal cargo hub.

In its first phase, comprising one runway and one terminal, the airport will have the capacity to handle around 12 million passengers annually. After the completion of all phases, the airport is expected to handle up to 70 million passengers per year, emerging as a major aviation hub for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.

The development of the airport is part of the broader vision of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to strengthen India’s aviation ecosystem.

Over the past decade, the number of operational airports in the country has increased from 74 in 2014 to 164 today, with India becoming the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market.
