Devotion pours forth as Mahakal’s Shravan procession dazzles Ujjain

Ujjain: A tidal wave of devotion swept through Ujjain today as Lord Mahakal embarked on his final procession of the Shravan month. Adorned in the sacred Uma-Mahesh form, the deity graced the city atop his Nandi chariot, drawing millions of pilgrims to witness the spectacular event.

The grand procession commenced at 4 PM after elaborate temple rituals. Lord Mahakal received a ceremonial salute from armed personnel, leading a vibrant display of local Bhajan groups, horse-mounted escorts, police bands, and majestic elephants. Devotees were also treated to the sight of Mahakal in a silver palanquin and a ‘Shiv Tandav’ depiction on a Garuda chariot. The Uma-Mahesh form on the Nandi chariot was a particular highlight.

Cultural extravaganza and global reach

The procession wound through Mahakal Chauraha, Gudri, Bakshi Bazar, Kaharwadi, concluding at Ramghat, where the Lord was bathed with holy Shipra waters. Adding a unique cultural dimension, the procession featured tableaux depicting religious, historical, and rural tourism. In line with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav’s vision, tribal artists delivered captivating performances along the Shipra banks, much to the delight of devotees.

The event garnered a massive global audience through live broadcasts on its Facebook page and mobile LED screens, with additional large screens set up across Ujjain for public viewing. The next processions are scheduled for August 11th and 18th in the Bhadon month, promising continued spiritual fervor.
