- Thousands participate in Shiva worship, Bhajan-Kirtan, and Kanwar Yatra
Bhopal: On the second Monday of the holy month of Sawan, a wave of devotion swept across the city as thousands of devotees thronged Shiva temples to offer prayers and seek blessings. From the break of dawn, long queues of devotees could be seen outside temples, especially at the famous Badwale Mahadev Temple located at Peer Gate. The temple saw a footfall of over 20,000 devotees throughout the day.
Worshippers performed the sacred Jalabhishek ritual by pouring water over the Shivling, symbolizing their devotion and spiritual surrender. The temple’s caretaker, Sanjay, shared that Baba’s grand decoration this week was uniquely done using intricate glass pieces, a task that took four days to complete. “Each detail reflects the artistry and our devotion to Lord Shiva,” he said. Rama Devi, a regular devotee, expressed her amazement, saying, “Every Monday, Baba’s grand adornment leaves us speechless—it feels like seeing the Lord himself.”
The temple resounded with spiritual energy throughout the day as continuous bhajan-kirtan (devotional singing) was held, culminating in a grand aarti at 9 PM.
Groups of Kanwariyas marched across the city
Meanwhile, with the onset of the Kanwar Yatra season, groups of Kanwariyas were seen marching across the city—carrying sacred water for Lord Shiva. Dressed in saffron and often accompanied by drums, musical instruments, and DJ setups, these groups were spotted in various parts of the city such as Shivji Nagar, Old Bhopal, and Bairagarh.
At the Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple in Kamala Park, large crowds gathered for early morning darshan. Devotees performed Archana and Jalabhishek with traditional offerings like dhatura, bel patra, and milk, praying for blessings and fulfillment of wishes. The temple echoed with chants and bhajans, adding to the devotional atmosphere. The city, drenched in faith and devotion, truly reflected the spiritual essence of Sawan.
