Bengaluru, Sep 22 (UNI) Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Friday flayed Karnataka MPs, including Mallikarjun Kharge for their lackadaisical attitude towards Cauvery water dispute.
The JD(S) patriarch stated that he was the only MP from Karnataka who raised the Cauvery dispute in the Rajya Sabha. “None of the MPs including Mallikarjun Kharge from the state, spoke about it,” he said.
The Tamil Nadu government had approached the Supreme Court, asking the Karnataka government to release 7,200 cusecs of Cauvery water, instead of 5,000 cusecs ordered by the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) daily until September 28.
However, the Top Court refused to intervene and gave a direction to the CWMA to ask Karnataka to release 7,200 cusecs water to Tamil Nadu.
Farmers bodies and members of some regional outfits have gone on protest for the last few days against Karnataka government releasing water to Tamil Nadu.
