Dev Patel to direct and star in period revenge-thriller ‘The Peasant’

Los Angeles, May 1 (UNI) After helming the critically appreciated ‘Monkey Man,’ actor-director Dev Patel has started working on his next project ‘The Peasant.’

For ‘The Peasant,’ Patel’s Minor Realm is co-producing the film in collaboration with Fifth Season and Thunder Road Pictures. The production has also joined hands with Marvel writer Will Dunn for the film.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming film draws inspiration from three blockbuster titles – Mel Gibson’s 1995 war action film ‘Braveheart,’ Keanu Reeves’ 2014 hit ‘John Wick’ and Clive Owen’s 2004 movie ‘King Arthur.’

Set against the backdrop of a feudal India and medieval knights of the 1300s, the plot chronicles the tale of an ordinary shepherd who embarks on a dangerous mission. Driven by his rage and grief against a group of mercenary knights who brutally ransacked his community, the shepherd lets his wrath take charge against them, revealing that there is more to his anger and power than what appears to be.

At the moment, reports suggest that Patel and Will Dunn are discussing fresh drafts for the film. Moreover, the producers are also thinking of launching a franchise out of the project.

However, the makers remain tight-lipped about the details of the cast and release date of the anticipated title.
