Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim granted 40-day parole again

New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, currently serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples, has been granted another 40-day parole.

Convicted in rape and murder cases, Ram Rahim is lodged at Sunaria jail in Haryana’s Rohtak district. The parole was approved by the Rohtak Divisional Commissioner, and he is expected to be released on Sunday or Monday.

His latest parole comes just months after he was granted a similar 40-day parole on August 5, 2025, to celebrate his birthday. Since his conviction in the rape case in August 2017, this will be the 15th time Ram Rahim has been released from prison on parole or furlough.

Rahim has also been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

Earlier, he was granted a 30-day parole in January 2025 and a 21-day furlough in April, ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections.

Mostly, his temporary releases have coincided with election periods. He was granted a 20-day parole on October 1, 2024, days before the Haryana Assembly elections on October 5, and a 21-day furlough in August 2024. In February 2022, he was allowed a three-week furlough shortly before the Punjab Assembly elections.

On several occasions during these releases, Ram Rahim has stayed at the Dera Sacha Sauda ashram in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district.
