Departments asked to report on budget expenditure so far

Bhopal: Preparations for presenting the Madhya Pradesh Budget for the financial year 2026–27 are gathering pace, with the Finance Department initiating a detailed exercise to shape the Finance Minister’s budget speech. All departments have been directed to submit comprehensive information on their financial and physical performance, based on which budgetary allocations for the next financial year will be decided.

The Finance Department has sought details on eight key points and has given departments time until January 15 to furnish the required information. Departments must clearly state the budget allocated to them in the current financial year and the amount spent so far. They are also required to highlight their major schemes, targets set, and achievements made to date. Special emphasis has been placed on beneficiary-oriented schemes, with departments asked to provide data on the number of beneficiaries covered. Information on the status of centrally sponsored and central sector schemes, along with brief details of new initiatives, has also been sought.

Focus on Encroachment Removal, Employment, and Social Welfare

The departments have been asked to report on steps taken to free government land from encroachment, a priority area for the state government. Details have also been sought on initiatives related to environmental protection, conservation of forests, land and water resources, promotion of new and renewable energy, cattle breeding and protection, and the removal of encroachments from grazing lands.

In addition, departments must submit information on efforts in public health, cottage and village industries, industrial development and investment promotion, conservation of heritage and religious sites, tourism and rural tourism, and the use of science and technology to improve public services. Progress towards improved rural transport, e-transportation, slum-free cities, and welfare measures for government employees and MSMEs will also be reviewed.

Crucially, departments have been instructed to provide detailed data on employment generation, including the number of government jobs provided, salary scales, and category-wise and post-wise appointments. Information on welfare measures for migrant workers, the third gender, marginalized communities, and minorities, as well as contributions towards the goal of a developed India by 2047, must also be included.
