Demolition drive from today for constructions under high-tension lines

Bhopal: Starting Monday, the Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company will begin demolishing roofs, balconies, and boundary walls of 814 houses built dangerously close to a 132 kV extra-high-tension line. Preparations for this action have been completed, following final notices issued to the homeowners. Despite multiple warnings, the affected residents failed to voluntarily remove the illegal structures.

These houses are spread across 21 colonies and localities in nine areas of Bhopal, including Nariyalkheda, Bhanpur, Devki Nagar, Karond, Bairagarh, Anand Nagar, Jain Colony, and other unauthorized settlements. The sensitive zones involve three high-tension lines: Bhopal Bairagarh–Lalghati, Bhopal IT Park, and Bhopal Amravad Khurd.

The action also includes two factories located in the Govindpura industrial area. According to Chief Engineer DK Agarwal, the company has surveyed nearby colonies and plots and will now proceed with demolition with the support of the district administration.

Numerous accidents have already occurred

Numerous accidents have already occurred in these restricted areas, with some individuals sustaining serious injuries during construction under the high-tension Bairagarh–Govindpura line. Authorities report that some people have been misled into buying plots with false assurances that the power lines would be relocated or decommissioned.

Despite repeated public announcements and personal outreach by officials, illegal construction has continued unabated, prompting the company to take strict action to ensure public safety.
