Demand to confer Bharat Ratna on Kanshi Ram

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson Praveen Dholpure has welcomed and supported the demand raised by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to confer the country’s highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, posthumously on Kanshi Ram.

Dholpure said Kanshi Ram dedicated his entire life to empowering Dalits, backward classes and marginalised communities by creating political awareness and ensuring their rights and dignity. He added that Kanshi Ram introduced a new stream of social justice in Indian democracy and inspired millions to believe that politics is not merely a means to gain power but also a tool to establish equality and justice.

He stated that Kanshi Ram’s struggle strengthened the core values of the Constitution—equality, dignity and participation. According to Dholpure, Rahul Gandhi’s letter to the Prime Minister reflects the sentiments of millions from Bahujan and marginalised communities. He urged the Union Government to seriously consider the demand.
