Delhi turns fortress as Putin’s visit triggers massive security measures

New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) The heart of India’s capital remained gridlocked as Russian President Vladimir Putin went about his official engagements, including meetings and a visit to Rajghat to pay respects to the Father of the Nation.
Police and paramilitary forces lined key roads, with snipers and anti-terror units forming a crucial layer of the multi-layered security grid for the Russian strongman.
Top officials said extensive measures, ranging from electronic surveillance to advance area sweeps, were activated ahead of Putin’s arrival and will remain in force until his departure.
“Every movement, every potential person of interest will be tracked by multiple security units operating jointly,” officials said. High-definition CCTV networks and technical monitoring systems have been activated across all parts of the city associated with the visit, ensuring round-the-clock oversight.
Office goers can expect route diversions, traffic jams and delays and should move around making allowance for such possibilities, a senior police officer said. UNI JRC AAB
