Delhi reports highest dengue and malaria cases in 5 yrs : AAP

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) The Aam Admi Party (AAP) today claimed that Delhi is experiencing a significant surge in mosquito-borne diseases, with the city reporting its highest number of dengue and malaria cases in the last five years.

The AAP said that in the past week alone, 38 new malaria cases and 74 new dengue cases were reported. This brings the total number of infections this year to 371 for malaria and 759 for dengue. Cases of chikungunya have also reached a five-year high, with 61 reported cases so far.

“The public health situation is under additional strain due to an ongoing strike by Municipal Corporation of Delhi workers. Approximately 5,200 Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBC) and Civic Field Workers (CFW), who are responsible for critical tasks like fogging, inspecting water tanks, and monitoring mosquito larvae, began their strike on September 29,” the AAP said.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s Leader of Opposition in the MCD, Ankush Narang, has blamed the crisis on the BJP-led civic leadership. He accused Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh of arrogance for not engaging with the striking workers to resolve their demands, warning that the strike would worsen the disease outbreak. Narang stated that he had raised the issue in the MCD House and sent a written letter to the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner, but no action was taken.

“The MCD’s zone-wise data for the last week shows malaria and dengue cases spread across the city. The Central, Shahdara North, and Shahdara South zones reported the highest malaria cases at 5 each. For dengue, Najafgarh reported 8 cases, while Delhi Cantonment reported 10,” AAP said.
