Delhi reels under ‘very poor’ air, AQI 330

New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) With not much relief for the residents, Delhi’s average air quality index on Saturday continued under the ‘very poor’ category, registering an index value of 330.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) data released on Saturday, Delhi’s average AQI level was based on the readings from across 40 air pollution monitoring stations, and the primary pollutant in the city’s air were the PM 2.5 particles.

Outer Delhi’s Mundka clocked the highest pollution readings on Saturday at 7 pm, with an index value of 382, followed by Nehru Nagar at 366, Rohini 361, and Bawana 359.

However, there was no centre as per the CPCB, that recorded AQI levels under (severe) category, having a reading of 400 or above.

According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), “The air quality is likely to be in the Very Poor category on Dec 6. The air quality is likely to be in the Very Poor category from Dec 7 to 9. The outlook for the subsequent six days is: The air quality is likely to be in the Very Poor category,” the weather agency said.

Meanwhile, the Graded Response Action Plan’s (GRAP) stage- II measures are into effect across the city, to curb the pollutants and prevent the situation from further deterioration.

The Commission for Air Quality Management in the NCR and adjoining areas is monitoring the situation round the clock, with frequent surprise checks on the implementation of the actions under its anti-pollution plan GRAP.

The Delhi government is also conducting dust mitigation efforts through its agencies on a regular basis, while the public representatives are personally monitoring work being done on the ground for pollution prevention.

The national Capital recorded a minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees C on Saturday morning, while maximum settled at 24.6 degrees C.

For Sunday, the weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy sky, with surface winds up to 15- 20 kmph during the day, while mist and haze during the morning hours.
