Delhi records best air quality in first nine months: CAQM

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) Delhi’s air quality showed marked improvement in the first nine months of 2025, aided by favourable meteorological conditions and sustained efforts by all concerned stakeholders, according to a statement here from the union Environment Ministry.

As per data released by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 164 during the period January to September 2025—the lowest for this period in the past eight years, barring 2020, the year of the COVID-19 lockdown.

It also said that there was not even a single day with average AQI of more than 400, besides witnessing highest number of ‘Satisfactory’ days, during January – September period in 2025.

This year’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) for the period January to September stood at 164, reflecting a consistent improvement in Delhi’s air quality over the past several years.

In comparison, the average AQI for the same period was 178 in 2024, 167 in 2023, 184 in 2022, 180 in 2021, 144 in 2020 (the lockdown year), 188 in 2019, and 193 in 2018. This downward trend highlights the positive impact of sustained air pollution control efforts and favourable meteorological conditions, said the statement.
