Delhi Police issue clarification on viral video, initiate action against officer

New Delhi, (UNI) Hours after Delhi’s main opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released a video where a purported police officer was heard saying calls are received from the chief minister and BJP leaders whenever the cops act against drug peddlers, the authorities on Sunday took action against the officer saying what he said didn’t reflect the official position of the union Territory’s police.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, North West Delhi, said the remarks made by the Additional Station House Officer from Bharat Nagar Police Station was not in tune with the official stand of Delhi Police.

The department stated that Inspector Rajeev, ATO Ashok Vihar, who was officiating as SHO Bharat Nagar, made certain “irresponsible remarks during a public interaction in his personal capacity, which were not based on facts”.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Delhi Police said that strict disciplinary action has been initiated. The officer has been transferred to District Lines and removed from the charge, effective immediately. The police reiterated that it operates strictly in accordance with the law, without external interference, and maintains a zero-tolerance policy on crime and narcotics.
