Delhi Police Cyber Cell bust major drug racket; Rs 2.3 Crore recovered

New Delhi, 14 Dec (UNI) Cyber Cell of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch dismantled a major organised racket involved in the manufacture, repackaging, and nationwide sale of spurious and altered Schedule-H ointments, with an estimated market value of Rs 2.3 crore, an official said on Sunday.
According to the police, the counterfeit medicines, being sold as genuine products, posed a serious threat to public health.
Two accused have been arrested in connection with the case: Gaurav Bhagat from Meerpur Hindu Village, Loni, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Shree Ram, also known as Vishal Gupta, from Nirmal Vihar, Sabhapur, Delhi, they said.
With credible intel and surveillance, the team conducted a raid at Teliwara in Delhi’s Sadar Bazar, a wholesale pharmaceutical and cosmetic market, seizing large quantities of counterfeit Schedule-H ointments, including Betnovate-C and Clop-G, commonly used for sports injuries and skin allergies, police said.
Further investigation led to a manufacturing unit in Meerpur Hindu Village, Loni, where officials recovered finished counterfeit medicines, packing material, raw chemicals, and machinery.
“Drug inspectors from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, along with company representatives, confirmed that the medicines were spurious and neither manufactured nor supplied by the original pharmaceutical companies,” said Aditya Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
The officers have registered an FIR at the Crime Branch police station under the relevant sections of the BNS and the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
The officer further said that the raids are ongoing to dismantle the supply chain, targeting sellers, delivery handlers, and distributors involved in the illegal trade.
“The recovered stock included over 1,200 tubes of Betnovate-C, more than 2,700 tubes of Clop-G, around 3,700 tubes of Skin-Shine ointment, 22,000 empty fake Clop-G tubes, and over 350 kg of spuriously made ointments along with machinery and chemicals,” the officer mentioned in his statement further.
