Delhi Police carries out flag marches, tightens security for Dhanteras, Diwali amid festival rush

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) With a number of festivals approaching, Delhi Police has stepped up security across the city to ensure a safe and smooth celebration for residents and visitors alike, an official said on Saturday.

In order to manage the large crowds expected at markets, commercial hubs, and public locations, officials have rolled out an extensive security plan aimed at neutralising potential threats.

“Police have deployed an adequate number of personnel across all police districts, reinforced by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) as force multipliers,” a senior police officer said.

Adding to his statement further, he mentioned that the presence of security forces has been visibly increased in key high-footfall areas to maintain law and order and deter criminal activities.

Foot patrolling has also been intensified to enhance public safety and reassure the community during the festive rush, he added.

Alongside the security measures, Delhi Traffic Police is actively managing the heavy vehicular traffic to maintain smooth flow and ensure pedestrian safety.

To manage the festive traffic, authorities have issued advisories outlining restrictions, alternative routes, and designated parking locations. Commuters are urged to adhere to traffic guidelines, comply with police directives, and opt for public transit to avoid heavy traffic, police said.

Delhi Police carried out flag marches in prominent markets and busy neighbourhoods to display their readiness and boost public morale. A joint flag march with CAPF personnel took place today in Chandni Chowk, one of the city’s busiest markets during the festival period.

Anti-sabotage checks are being regularly carried out at busy markets, railway stations, and interstate bus terminals with the support of bomb detection teams and dog squads, ensuring no suspicious activity goes unnoticed.

Additionally, to manage crowd movement, police have coordinated with market associations to set up machans and utilise public address systems for announcements, advising shoppers to stay alert and vigilant.

Through these comprehensive measures, Delhi Police aims to create a secure environment for everyone to celebrate Dhanteras and Diwali with peace of mind.
