Delhi Police busts terror module, 5 arrested, several suspects under surveillance

New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) Sources within the Special Cell informed UNI that a multi-state operation led to the detention of eleven suspects from the “Karnataka-Bengaluru region”. Most of them were later released due to lack of evidence.

A few of them are among the five terrorists arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police for plotting jihad in India, as part of a Pakistan-led pan-India ‘Khilafat’ terror module.

However, the sources stated that the men remain under surveillance, as they were in direct contact with the five arrested alleged terrorists via social media apps.

According to the sources, two of the five arrested individuals had traveled to Mewat to procure sophisticated weapons. They were apprehended in the Nizamuddin area before they could leave for Mumbai.

Aftab and Abu Sufiyan, both residents of Mumbai, were arrested in Nizamuddin. The alleged terrorists had come to Delhi and were about to board a train to Mumbai when the Special Cell, aided by technical intelligence, captured them.

Danish, a resident of Jharkhand, was identified as the kingpin and was in contact with a Pakistan-based handler. Kamran Qureshi was arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh, while Huzaifa was arrested in Hyderabad.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwaha stated that the joint multi-state operation thwarted the group’s plan to acquire land, declare it a “Khilafat zone,” and initiate violent activities under the guise of jihad.

The arrested accused have been identified as, Ashrar Qureshi (Ranchi), Aftab Qureshi (Mumbai), Sufiyan Abubakar (Jharkhand), Mohammad Huzaifa (Telangana) and Kamran Qureshi (Madhya Pradesh).

Significant recoveries included sulfur powder, ball bearings (used for making IEDs), safety masks, weapons, and cartridges. The suspects are now in police custody.
