New Delhi, March 16 (UNI): The Vigilance Unit of Delhi Police on Monday said they have apprehended an Assistant Sub-Inspector posted at Geeta Colony police station while allegedly accepting a bribe from a complainant in Shahdara.
The accused officer, identified as ASI Rohtash Kumar, was caught during a trap operation while taking ₹20,000 that he had allegedly demanded from a man.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) said the action was part of the ongoing anti-corruption drive initiated by Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha.
According to the Vigilance Unit, a resident of Shahdara had complained that the ASI, who was investigating a dowry harassment case filed by the complainant’s wife, had been threatening strict action against him and his family members and demanding a bribe to provide relief in the matter.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Unit laid a trap and apprehended the officer while he was accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
The Vigilance Unit has urged citizens to report any instance where police personnel demand bribes. Complaints can be made through the Vigilance helpline or by visiting the Vigilance Office at Barakhamba Road in New Delhi.
