New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday alleged that the law and order situation in the national capital has deteriorated under the BJP government, claiming that incidents of murder and violent crime have increased in recent weeks.
AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar accused the BJP-led administration and the Delhi Police of failing to curb crime in the city. He claimed that several murders have taken place since the beginning of the year and alleged that six killings occurred in a single day.
Referring to a recent incident in Nand Nagri, Kuldeep Kumar alleged that a father was shot dead while trying to save his minor son from being assaulted. He said the episode reflected what he described as growing fearlessness among criminals. According to him, people who intervene to stop violent incidents are now being targeted.
The AAP leader also cited an incident in Trilokpuri in which a lawyer was shot while attempting to intervene in a dispute. He further referred to a case in Dwarka, alleging that police action was taken only after public pressure mounted on social media.
Kuldeep Kumar questioned the steps being taken by the BJP government to control crime, alleging that extortion demands and shootings have created an atmosphere of fear in the city. He said that in the national capital, criminals should be deterred by strong law enforcement, but claimed that ordinary citizens are instead living in fear.
He also criticised Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alleging that the government was focused on “copy-paste and name-changing politics” rather than addressing core governance issues such as public safety.
The AAP MLA further stated that opposition legislators have sought time to meet Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha to discuss the law and order situation but have not yet been granted an appointment. He said that as elected representatives, they have the right to present their concerns and suggestions to the police leadership and urged the Commissioner to act without political considerations.
