Delhi govt taking steps for elderly, Rs 20 cr to be spent on new recreation centres: Indraj

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh extended greetings to the senior citizens, saying the state government is consistently working for their security, dignity and ensuring a fulfilling life.

Indraj said the government is continuously working on new schemes for senior citizens, and is working on a fresh plan for recreation centres to ensure better mental health well being, along with special focus on counselling in old age homes.

He said the provision of post-retirement counseling will be further expanded in Delhi, and Rs 20 crore will be spent on developing recreation centres, to promote mental health well being of senior citizens.

The minister also shared that 50,000 new pension vacancies have been created for senior citizens in Delhi during the ongoing service fortnight, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

Along with this, the Savitribai Phule Old Age Home in Paschim Vihar has also been inaugurated, which will provide modern and secure housing facilities for 96 senior citizens.

The minister said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has issued clear directions that every scheme of the Delhi government should reach senior citizens of the state, and that they should not face any difficulty.

Indraj said all eligible senior citizens will receive the benefit of pension, and if they require any assistive device, they may inform the department.

These devices include wheelchairs, walkers, wheel bearers and wheel-bearer commodes, hearing aids, spectacles, silicon foam pillows, spinal support belts, knee presses, cervical collars, and other health-support kits.

The Social Welfare Minister emphasized that the Delhi government is providing not only facilities, but also security and dignity to the elderly.

He has appealed to people, saying that everyone must respect and support senior citizens.
