New Delhi, May 2 (UNI) A heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms hit Delhi-NCR in the early hours of Friday, causing waterlogging in several areas of the capital and leading to traffic congestion on the roads.
The sudden influx of rainwater caused water to accumulate on the roads, resulting in traffic jams and inconvenience for commuters who were heading to work or other essential destinations.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took to the streets to assess the situation, visiting Majnu Ka Tila and directing officials to take necessary measures due to severe waterlogging in the area.
While the rain brought relief from the heat and made the weather pleasant, strong winds caused damage in some areas, with trees falling due to the gusts.
Waterlogging was reported in areas such as Airport Flyover, Moti Bagh, Dhaula Kuan, Dwarka Underpass, Minto Road, Timarpur, Bhajanpura, Karawal Nagar, and Lajpat Nagar.
Delhi’s Water Minister, Parvesh Verma, posted on X to update citizens about the situation “Today, due to unseasonal record rainfall, water accumulated in several areas of Delhi. I visited several places starting from 5:30 am to assess the situation.
“At Minto Bridge, I saw that all four pumps were working, and the operator was on duty. In preparation for the monsoon, continuous cleaning of drains is being carried out by PWD, MCD, Delhi Jal Board, NDMC, and IFCD.”
