New Delhi (August 21 UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has been provided with a Z+ category security cover. The enhanced protocol mandates that two female Personal Security Officers (PSOs) will accompany her at all times, supported by deployed CRPF jawans, a security review decided today.
Last night the Tis Hazari court remanded the accused to five days of police custody. The court granted the custodial interrogation after the Delhi Police argued that it was necessary to uncover the full conspiracy. Investigations show that Khimjibhai had planned the assault in advance.
Contrary to initial reports that he hit the CM with documents, police sources revealed the attack was far more severe. During the ‘Jan Sunwai’ at the Chief Minister’s residence, the accused allegedly slapped her and pulled her hair before her security team could intervene and subdue him.
The investigations revealed that the accused was in constant contact with an unidentified person over the phone. The Delhi Police will now scrutinize his call detail records (CDR) from the past year to trace these communications. His mobile phone has been seized and will be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for a comprehensive forensic analysis.
In addition to the digital probe, the police is considering to recreate the crime scene to meticulously gather and study the sequence of events. It has been confirmed that the accused was present at the CM’s Shalimar Bagh residence as early as 11 am on Tuesday.
The case has been escalated to the highest levels, with the Delhi Police briefing the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). An FIR has been registered against Khimjibhai under three stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including the grave charge of attempt to murder. The accused was jointly interrogated on Wednesday by teams from the local police, the Special Cell, and Intelligence Bureau officials.
