Delhi Assembly Speaker seeks report on teachers’ duty row

New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Tuesday informed the House that MLA Ajay Mahawar has submitted a complaint to him.

He was speaking on the second day of the Winter Session of the Delhi Assembly.

The Speaker said the complaint mentions that former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and MLA Sanjeev Jha have been making allegations in the media claiming that teachers in Delhi government schools were deployed for counting stray dogs.

The Speaker clarified that the Delhi government has denied issuing any such order. He said the matter is being referred to the Standing Committee on Education, which will examine the issue and submit a detailed report to the House.

The Speaker also informed the House about disruptions caused by Aam Aadmi Party MLAs during the Lieutenant Governor’s address on January 5. He said their conduct hurt the dignity of the House, following which four members had to be sent out.

Calling the issue serious, the Speaker said the Leader of Opposition has given distorted statements to the media regarding the incident, alleging that the government is neither willing to work on pollution nor ready to discuss it.

The Speaker clarified that the disruption took place during the Lieutenant Governor’s address, during which no discussion is permitted. He added that pollution will be discussed openly in the House at an appropriate time.

Referring to statements made by Atishi in the media, the Speaker said claims that she was not allowed to raise the pollution issue or wear a mask in the House are incorrect. He clarified that there was no issue related to permission for wearing masks.

He said the statements made by the opposition leader are completely false and amount to allegations directly against the Chair.

The Speaker announced that the matter is being referred to the Assembly’s Privileges Committee under Rule 82, which will investigate the issue and present a report to the House.
