New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Amid the ruckus by BJP legislators in the House, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta announced the extension of the Assembly proceedings by one more day. The House was adjourned till 11:00 AM on January 9.

When the House met in the morning on Thursday, Minister Pravesh Verma proposed that the matter related to the alleged derogatory remarks by Atishi about Sikh Guru be referred to the Privileges Committee. The Speaker directed that the entire issue be sent to the Assembly’s Privileges Committee and asked it to submit a report.

Earlier, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta ordered a forensic investigation into the video linked to Atishi’s statement, saying there was an attempt to raise questions on the functioning of the House. The Speaker directed that the forensic report be submitted within 15 days, noting that the demand for the investigation came from both ruling and opposition parties.

Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra speaking with media said, “Atishi has committed a very serious crime. She is absconding like a professional criminal. Atishi has deliberately insulted the Gurus. Arvind Kejriwal is standing with her in this crime.”

“Now an apology will not be enough, her(Atishi) membership should be cancelled,” he added.

On Thursday, as the winter session of the Delhi Assembly began on its fourth day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators raised slogans inside the House against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the alleged objectionable remarks made by Leader of Opposition Atishi about a Sikh Guru.

BJP MLAs shouted slogans such as “Hindustan will not tolerate insult of Gurus” in the House. AAP legislators were also seen raising slogans during the uproar.

Both BJP and AAP MLAs waved posters inside the Assembly. Separately, AAP and BJP MLAs met the Delhi Assembly Speaker to place their concerns over the Atishi matter.
