New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction concluded on Thursday with high drama and record-breaking signings, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
Deepti emerged as the standout buy, going to UP Warriorz for Rs 3.2 crore, while a total of 67 players, including 23 overseas stars, were sold, with franchises collectively spending Rs 40.8 crore.
Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru maxed out their funds, assembling 16-player squads with six overseas and 10 Indian players each.
Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz went slightly overboard with 18-player squads, retaining a Right to Match (RTM) option in Gujarat’s case and Rs 15 lakh in the purse.
The auction saw marquee international and domestic signings: Amelia Kerr to Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore, Meg Lanning to UP Warriorz for Rs 1.9 crore, and Sophie Devine to Gujarat Giants for Rs 2 crore.
Other notable picks included Shikha Pandey (Rs 2.4 crore) and Asha Sobhana (Rs1.1 crore) for Warriorz, and Laura Woolvaardt (Rs 1.1 crore) and Chinelle Henry (Rs 1.3 crore) for Delhi Capitals.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured stars like Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, and Pooja Vastrakar, while Gujarat Giants strengthened their squad with Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, and Georgia Wareham.
Veteran international players such as Grace Harris, Kim Garth, and Yastika Bhatia were also snapped up in competitive bidding.
With squads now finalized, the WPL 2025 promises fierce contests, high-profile performances, and fresh rivalries, with big-ticket buys like Deepti Sharma expected to lead their teams to glory.
This auction concludes the squad-building phase and sets up an eagerly anticipated WPL season.
