Daring Rs 20 lakh robbery in Bhopal

  • Hawala link suspected, four detained

Bhopal: A sensational robbery has rocked Bhopal’s TT Nagar area, where a businessman was stripped of Rs 20 lakh in a brazen daylight attack. The incident, which occurred as the businessman was transporting the large sum, has immediately raised suspicions of a hawala (illegal money transfer) connection.

Police initially faced reluctance from the victim to file a First Information Report (FIR), reportedly due to the illicit nature of the funds. However, authorities have since persuaded him to proceed with the formal complaint and are now preparing to register the FIR.

Sources indicate that the robbery took place on Tuesday within the TT Nagar police station’s jurisdiction. Swift police action, aided by CCTV footage and descriptions of the suspects, led a team to Arif Nagar in Gautam Nagar yesterday. Four individuals have been detained in connection with the crime, and police have also recovered a portion of the stolen money.

Bhopal Commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra confirmed the robbery, estimating the amount between Rs15 to Rs 20 lakh, and acknowledged the suspected hawala links. He stated that the police are preparing to file an FIR based on the victim’s application and anticipate a quick resolution with arrests to follow.
