CWC meeting in Belagavi will discuss action plan for upcoming years: Venugopal

New Delhi, Dec 24 (UNI) To commemorate the 100th anniversary of its historic Belgaum session, the Congress party will host an extended CWC meeting, ‘Nav Satyagrah’, in Belagavi on Thursday where it will discuss action plan and programme for the upcoming years.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here on Tuesday, party general secretary KC Venugopal along with spokespersons Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera said, “The meeting will deliberate on the critical challenges facing the nation under the BJP rule, including economic inequality, erosion of democracy, and attacks on constitutional institutions”.

He said the working committee meeting will take place in the same venue where Mahatma Gandhi assumed the presidency of the Indian National Congress in December 1924.

As many as 200 leaders, including CWC members, permanent invitees, special invitees, central election committee members, Pradesh Congress Committee members, CLP leaders of the state, parliamentary party office bearers, and former Chief Ministers of the Congress party, will attend the historic session, Venugopal said.

Accusing the Narendra Modi government of “completely rejecting the values of the Constitution”, Venugopal said, “The Congress party workers all over India have been on the ground participating in agitation”.

“Today, all District Committees are staging demonstrations and will be submitting a memorandum to the President of India through the District Collectors, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah,” the senior Congress leader said.

He said that hundred years ago, the 39th Congress session was presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in Belagavi and prominent leaders, including Motilal Nehru, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lala Lajpat Rai, Sarojini Naidu and Vallabhbhai Patel participated.Adding that the Congress party and the people who believe in nationalism are proud of this great movement.

The Congress General Secretary further added that on December 27, the Jai Bapu, Jai Bheem, Jai Samvidhan rally will be held at Mahatma Gandhi Nagar in Belagavi where MPs from the Congress party, AICC functionaries, and lakhs of party workers will participate.
