New Delhi, On the occasion of the 100th year of the Jallianwala Bagh incident, Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (IC), Prahlad Singh Patel on Thursday handed over the kalash containing holy soil of Jallianwala Bagh to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PM handed over the urn to the Minister to be put in the national museum. Talking to reporters here, Mr Patel said,’’I had brought the Kalash with the soil of Jallianwala Bagh to the Prime Minister . Thereafter, he handed over the Kalash to me to be put in the National Memorial.
The placing of the kalash, fileld with the blood stained soil of the Jallianwala Bagh martyrs, in the National Memorial is aimed at creating awareness among people about the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters.
The Minister said that during a discussion on the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill 2019 in Parliament, the Government had said that the kalash containing the soil would be placed in the National Museum.
Mr Patel handed over the ‘kalash’ to PM Modi two days after Parliament gave its approval to the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill 2019. The Bill seeks to remove the Congress president as a permanent member in a trust that runs the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial.
