Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Media Department head and former minister Mukesh Nayak has slammed the BJP government for its catastrophic failure in healthcare over the past 22 years, calling it a dark stain of corruption, negligence, and systemic collapse.
Referring to a disturbing incident on April 17 at Chhatarpur District Hospital, where a 77-year-old man, Uddhav Singh Joshi, was slapped, dragged, and assaulted by Dr. Rajesh Mishra, Nayak said, “This is not just a doctor’s hooliganism—it’s a symptom of a deeply broken system.”
He highlighted widespread issues: lack of specialist doctors in cardiology, cancer, neurology, and urology, non-functional diagnostic equipment, and patients forced to travel to Nagpur, Mumbai, or Delhi for basic treatment. Over 60% of specialist posts remain vacant.
Nayak further exposed major scams involving fake doctors, substandard medicines, and testing rackets. In Damoh, a fake cardiologist performed 15 surgeries, resulting in seven deaths. In Rewa, five mothers lost memory after receiving spurious injections. “Every year, Rs 400 crore worth of medicines are procured without third-party testing—patients are being treated with expired or substandard drugs,” he added.
Cases of patient abuse in Ratlam, Indore, and Betul underline a pattern of brutality in state hospitals. Despite the BJP touting Ayushman Bharat, Nayak termed it a “paper tiger,” benefiting private players through commission-driven referrals.
He warned, “If the government fails to act, the Congress will take to the streets with the people. Healthcare is not a privilege—it’s a right.”
With scathing criticism, Nayak concluded, “In an era of robotic surgeries, Madhya Pradesh is stuck in medieval medicine. The BJP has turned public hospitals into torture chambers, and the people have had enough.”
