Crackdown on illegal liquor shop after Human Rights Commission order

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: Acting on strict directions from the Human Rights Commission, the Bhopal Collector has ordered an inquiry into an illegal liquor outlet operating opposite the Arya Samaj Temple in Arera Colony. A team led by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) P.C. Shakya inspected the premises.

Congress spokesperson Vivek Tripathi alleged that excise officials allowed the shop to open in violation of regulations, despite its location on a residential plot, only 42 metres from the temple and adjacent to a hospital. He claimed the matter highlights clear negligence and collusion by the authorities.

Local residents have voiced strong opposition, accusing excise officials of financial dealings that enabled the outlet’s operation.

Amid mounting complaints, the Human Rights Commission has summoned the Bhopal Collector and the District Excise Commissioner to appear in Delhi on 3 October. Officials say strict action against the liquor contractor and errant excise officers now appears inevitable, with accountability expected for flouting established rules.
