- “Gau Rakshaks” accused of brutal attack and robbery in Pandhurna
Pandhurna: A chilling incident in Pandhurna has blurred the lines between cow protection and outright thuggery, as approximately two dozen individuals, identifying as “cow protectors,” allegedly launched a life-threatening assault on a truck driver, robbing him of Rs 10,000. The shocking event, which occurred late on June 10th, involved the brutal beating of Chandrashekhar Kaithwar, whose truck was found to be carrying not cattle, but agricultural fertilizer.
Cinematic chase ends in violence
According to the driver, the assailants pursued his truck in a “filmy style” using cars and motorcycles, eventually overtaking and forcing him to stop near Pandhurna while en route from Sausar to Akola. Once halted, the mob surrounded the truck, smashing its windows with stones and sticks before savagely assaulting Kaithwar. Following the brutal beating, they also stole Rs 10,000 from him.
Justice delayed: Allegations of influence and extortion
Despite the severe nature of the attack, 17 days have passed with no arrests or concrete action taken. Disturbingly, police reportedly possess information regarding the attackers’ identities, organizational affiliations, and political connections, yet a troubling silence persists.
Sources indicate that these individuals are allegedly involved in extortion rackets operating under the guise of cow protection. From stopping trucks for illegal collections to intimidating vendors in markets, such strong-arm tactics are reportedly a routine affair. A significant concern is the allegation that these youths leverage their claimed association with certain organizations or the ruling party to exert pressure on law enforcement, potentially explaining the perceived inaction from the police.
Attackers identified
Station House Officer Ajay Markam stated that the matter is being investigated thoroughly and that all attackers have been identified and will be arrested soon. The incident raises serious questions about vigilante justice and the accountability of groups operating under the banner of social causes.
