Lucknow, Jan 8 (UNI) Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s self-reliant cow shelter model, Uttar Pradesh is preparing to use organic pots made from cow dung instead of polythene for tree plantation to make it plastic-free.
For this purpose, these pots will be produced on a large scale in approximately 7000 cow shelters across the state. This will create large-scale employment in every district and increase opportunities for cattle rearers.
The Uttar Pradesh Cow Service Commission has prepared a special scheme. Shyam Bihari Gupta, Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Cow Service Commission, said here on Wednesday that under this scheme, there are plans to plant saplings in cow dung pots instead of polythene bags during the massive tree plantation campaign.
The commission plans to manufacture approximately 5 crore cow dung pots this year to launch this campaign. He said that he discussed the plan with Forest Minister Dr. Arun Saxena. It has been decided that the use of organic pots will be started on a large scale in nurseries.
Shyam Bihari Gupta, Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Cow Service Commission, said that the work of manufacturing 5 crore pots will be carried out in every district of the state through women’s self-help groups and young entrepreneurs. This will enable large-scale employment generation at the local level.
He said that this initiative will prove to be a concrete step towards cow protection, nutritional security, environmental protection, cleanliness, and self-reliant cow shelters.
Dr. Anurag Srivastava, OSD of the Cow Service Commission, said that the large-scale tree plantation drive will utilise organic compost pots made from cow dung, which will reduce plastic waste and increase soil fertility. This initiative will strengthen the goal of a plastic-free Uttar Pradesh and connect all the cow shelters in the state with livelihood opportunities.
These organic pots made from cow dung decompose naturally in the soil after planting, without causing any harm to the plant roots, and also provide them with essential nutrients for up to a year in the initial stages. This will increase the survival rate of the plants and improve the quality of the plantation drives.
The commission believes that this initiative will not only contribute to environmental protection but will also ensure the active participation of various sections of society, NGOs, social organisations, and ordinary citizens. This will transform the resolution of a plastic-free Uttar Pradesh into a mass movement.
