Municipal Corporation has to collect crores of rupees from 200 government and private institutions. Corporation officers are sweating it out, and to achieve the target, camps are being organized in ward and zone offices to collect taxes from the people of the city. These camps are being organized on the lines of National Lok Adalat, in which property tax, water tax and other taxes are being collected from the common man.

On the lines of National Lok Adalat, Bhopal Municipal Corporation has started organizing camps every Saturday to give the benefit of exemption in surcharge on taxes. Taxpayers are taking advantage of this in the camp organized every Saturday. In the camp organized last Saturday, taxpayers have deposited an amount of more than 13 crore 13 lakh. These camps are being organized under the exemption given in surcharges on the items of property, water tax and consumer charges by the Urban Development and Housing Department. In the camps organized in ward and zone offices, the cases including property tax and water consumer charges were resolved by taking advantage of the exemption given in surcharge.

Revenue dues of about one billion

Officials said that the revenue dues of the Municipal Corporation are currently about one billion. Out of this, people have got stay from the court in revenue cases of about 90 crores. The team of the law department of the corporation has not been successful in removing it. Due to this, the corporation is not only suffering financial loss, but also has to take loans from banks to meet its daily expenses. Preparations are being made for attachment even if the general public has dues of two to three lakh rupees. Among these, there are two institutions in Chunabhatti area.

This much is due on people

Bhopal Municipal Corporation is taking action from Lok Adalat to property attachment for revenue recovery, but this action is limited to small defaulters only. In the camp held last Saturday, about 12 to 15 crore rupees were recovered from the general public of the city including property tax and water tax, while private companies and government departments have dues of more than 200 crore rupees. In the last financial year, the property of five people was confiscated for having property tax dues of about 8 lakh rupees, while this time also the property of 4 people is to be confiscated to recover about 10 lakhs. Commissioner Harendra Narayan said that recovery has started rapidly. No influential people are being spared.
