Controversy surrounds workshop at Makhanlal Journalism University

  • NSUI raises serious questions
  • Puts up ‘Kuthiyala Go Back’ posters on VC’s Car

Bhopal: A workshop on the importance of social media at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication has sparked a wave of protest from the student wing of the Congress party, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). The protest specifically revolves around the presence of former Vice Chancellor, Dr. Braj Kishore Kuthiyala, at the event. NSUI members expressed their dissent by putting up posters that read “Kuthiyala Go Back,” “Dada Ka Naam, Sanghi Kaam,” and “Save MCU” across the university campus. These posters were displayed on the walls of the auditorium, administrative building, and other prominent areas of the campus.

NSUI alleges program aimed at appeasing a particular organization

The NSUI has voiced concerns about the direction the university is taking under its current administration. According to the organization, educational institutions should remain free from controversy and should not provide a platform to individuals whose tenure has been marred by allegations of corruption. They argue that the university’s reputation is at stake as controversial figures continue to be promoted by the administration. The NSUI alleges that such workshops are being organized with the intention of appeasing a particular ideological group.

Questions raised on relevance of workshop in absence of students

Tanay Sharma, the NSUI in-charge for the university, further added that the administration was trying to impose an ideological shift towards a “Sanghi” narrative, which he claims goes against democratic values. Sharma criticized the decision to invite Dr. Kuthiyala, whose tenure had been contentious, and suggested that the decision to honor him raises several serious questions. He also questioned the logic behind holding a workshop when the new academic session is set to begin on July 14, and students were not present on campus. Sharma emphasized that organizing such events in the absence of students undermines the relevance of the program.
