Congress targets illegal liquor shop in Bhopal’s Arera Colony

Bhopal: The Congress party on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Madhya Pradesh government and district administration over an alleged illegal liquor shop being operated on a residential plot in Arera Colony. Party spokesperson Vivek Tripathi accused the authorities of shielding liquor mafias despite repeated complaints from residents.

Tripathi said that the residents, frustrated by inaction, had approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which issued notices and reminders directing the administration to take action. However, the Bhopal administration allegedly failed to submit the required reports, raising suspicions of collusion.

The Congress leader further alleged that the shop, located adjacent to the Arya Samaj temple and Anushree Nursing Home, posed a serious threat to women and children. He claimed that officials were deliberately ignoring the concerns of residents in order to protect the business interests of the liquor mafia.

Residents too voiced their anger, warning that if the administration failed to act, they would forcibly shut down the shop themselves. Tripathi warned that if the illegal outlet was not closed and licences cancelled, Congress would join residents in a mass agitation to ensure its closure.
