Congress stages symbolic protest in Assembly over farmers’ plight

Bhopal: On the second day of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly’s winter session, the Congress Legislature Party, led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, staged a strong symbolic protest highlighting what it described as the worsening plight of farmers under the BJP government.

Congress MLAs arrived in the Assembly premises carrying a tableau titled “Chidiya Chug Gayi Khet” (the bird has eaten the field), symbolising the alleged devastation of farmers’ hard work, hopes and harvests due to government failures.

Singhar said that farmers across the state were being forced to struggle for basic necessities — fertiliser, fair procurement prices and timely compensation. He added that the “annadata” was being pushed onto the streets to fight for his rights, while those in power continued to “distract farmers with hollow schemes like Bhavantar.”

The Leader of Opposition further remarked that the government’s inability to safeguard farmers’ interests amounted to its “biggest failure,” claiming that the BJP administration had already “cleaned out the fields like a predatory bird.”

The Congress Legislature Party asserted that it would continue to raise the farmers’ voice at every platform and fight steadfastly until their rights were secured and justice delivered.
