Ujjain: The Congress party on Friday held a grand rally in Ujjain under the banner of the Kisan Nyay Yatra – Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod Yatra (Farmers’ Justice March – Step Down, Vote Thieves), attracting a massive turnout of farmers, labourers and marginalised communities. The show of strength, leaders said, reflected growing public anger against the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh.
A host of senior Congress figures, including Jitu Patwari, Sachin Pilot, state in-charge Harish Chaudhary, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, Jaivardhan Singh, Omkar Makram, Kantilal Bhuria, Ajay Singh, Manohar Bairagi, Vipin Wankhede, MLA Vipin Jain and former minister Bala Bachchan, shared the stage. District and city Congress presidents Mahesh Parmar and Mukesh Bhati welcomed the leaders with traditional cotton garlands.
Speakers stressed that the rally was not merely about farmers’ issues but a broader struggle for justice and democracy. They sharply criticised the BJP government, accusing it of anti-people policies, election malpractice and injustice towards farmers.
Patwari condemned BJP leaders’ “anti-national statements” and blamed Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for illegal liquor trade in Ujjain, land grabbing from farmers, and shortages of fertilisers. Chaudhary asserted that the Congress would continue to fight for the protection of farmers’ land and the strengthening of democracy.
Digvijaya Singh alleged collusion between the BJP and the Election Commission, citing the Ujjain mayoral polls as “proof of vote theft,” while urging citizens to rally with Congress against injustice. Pilot also questioned the impartiality of the Election Commission, warning that “vote theft is happening openly” while farmers and youth face relentless hardship.
Reiterating the party’s commitment under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Congress leaders declared that they would ensure victory in Madhya Pradesh in 2028 and at the national level in 2029, promising justice for the people.
