Bhopal: The Congress has launched a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh, accusing it of plunging the state into a state of “lawlessness and fear”. A spate of recent violent incidents, including the daylight shooting of BJP leader Nilesh Rajak in Katni’s Kaimor, the brutal murder of farmer Ramswaroop Dhakad allegedly by BJP leader Mahendra Nagar in Guna, the double murder of a couple in Jabalpur, public flogging of a youth on suspicion of mobile theft in Singrauli, and an axe attack on a police team by an accused in Panna, have sparked outrage across the state.
Congress state president Jitu Patwari said that under the BJP rule, criminals were roaming freely while Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and the Home Minister had “completely failed” to maintain law and order. “The government is openly protecting criminals, and evidence clearly indicates complicity of those in power. We demand a high-level probe into these incidents, strict action against guilty leaders, and immediate resignation of the Home Minister,” Patwari stated.
He added that innocent farmers, women and ordinary citizens were now living in constant fear. Warning the government of mass protests, Patwari said the Congress would not remain silent if the administration continued to ignore public outrage.
The Congress has urged the people of Madhya Pradesh to unite against what it described as the BJP’s “reign of terror” and to stand up in defence of democracy.
