Congress slams BJP Government over ‘Ladli Behna Scheme’

Bhopal: On the occasion of Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day, State Congress President Jeetu Patwari launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government, accusing it of large-scale corruption and financial mismanagement. Patwari said that while this day should celebrate the state’s glorious history and achievements, the current Mohan government had instead “brought disgrace through rampant corruption and reckless expenditure.”

Congress leader alleged that the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’—promoted as a women’s empowerment initiative—had in fact turned into a conduit for major financial irregularities. According to the Congress, the state government has taken loans worth ₹90,000 crore in the name of the scheme, yet only ₹41,000 crore reached women beneficiaries. The party questioned, “Where has the remaining ₹49,000 crore gone?”

Patwari accused the Chief Minister of pushing the state deeper into debt, claiming that massive loans are being raised every month from domestic and foreign institutions. “The Mohan government borrows in the name of women’s welfare but spends it on corruption and political propaganda,” he alleged.

The Congress also dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “guarantees” as hollow promises, asserting that farmers were deceived over crop insurance and minimum support prices. The middle class, it said, continues to face the brunt of rising prices of fuel and cooking gas, while youth and government employees remain disillusioned by unemployment and stagnant wages.

Marking the state’s Foundation Day, Patwari urged citizens to take a collective pledge to build a corruption-free and truthful Madhya Pradesh, liberated from “lies, deceit, and misrule.”

“Jai Hind! Jai Madhya Pradesh!”
