Bhopal: A delegation of traders from Anand Nagar Market in the Govindpura Assembly constituency, led by District Congress Committee president Praveen Saxena, submitted a memorandum at the district collectorate on Monday, strongly opposing the proposal to remove 208 shops that have been operating in the area for several years.

Addressing officials, the delegation stated that these shops are run largely by middle-class families and serve as their primary source of livelihood. They warned that any removal without providing a suitable alternative arrangement would have a severe impact on the daily lives and economic security of hundreds of families dependent on these establishments.

Saxena urged the administration to ensure that no shop is demolished or removed until the government provides appropriate alternative commercial spaces to the affected traders. He emphasised that the issue goes beyond a routine administrative decision, as it directly concerns the survival, dignity and livelihood of numerous families. “This is not merely a traders’ issue; it is about protecting the right to livelihood of ordinary citizens,” he said.

Several Congress leaders and representatives of the Anand Nagar Traders’ Association were present during the submission of the memorandum, including voter list training in-charge Lalit Sen, former Assembly candidate Ravindra Sahu, former corporator Manish Yadav, and former executive district president of Youth Congress, Bhopal, Abhishek Sharma. The delegation collectively appealed for an immediate and fair decision in the interest of the traders.
