Bhopal: Senior leaders of the Madhya Pradesh Congress on Wednesday accused the authorities of serious irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, terming it an attack on voters’ rights. Addressing a joint press conference at the party’s state headquarters, former minister Sajjan Singh Verma and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Kamleshwar Patel demanded immediate corrective action and greater transparency.
Verma said that after the first phase of SIR, the draft electoral roll issued on December 23, 2025, contained grave discrepancies. He alleged that over 5.31 crore voters were wrongly placed under “Not Mapping” during verification, without publishing a separate list at polling stations or on the website. He further claimed that printed copies of the ASDR list were neither provided to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) nor shared with political parties, making it impossible to identify deleted voters.
He also raised concerns over changes in polling booths during SIR, stating that new booths lacked Booth Level Agents (BLAs), undermining the claims and objections process. Verma warned that if objections raised by the Congress were not addressed promptly, the party would pursue constitutional and judicial remedies.
CWC member Kamleshwar Patel expressed grief over the deaths of employees allegedly caused by excessive workload during SIR, holding the government and the Election Commission responsible. He claimed that over 42.74 lakh voters’ names were deleted statewide, calling it a direct assault on democracy.
Senior leader J.P. Dhanopia urged the Election Commission to ensure transparency and involve Congress BLAs fairly in the resolution process.
