Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari has raised sharp concerns over what he described as the “alarming and unprecedented economic crisis”. Patwari alleged that the state government is borrowing nearly Rs 165 crore every day, and, more worryingly, taking additional loans merely to service existing interest payments a practice he termed as fiscally irresponsible.
Patwari revealed that the government has already sold 101 public assets for Rs 1,100 crore, including valuable properties located outside the state. “Prime land parcels in Mumbai and Kerala have been quietly auctioned off,” he claimed, adding that such actions reflect the government’s desperation to bridge widening financial gaps.
He warned that the burden of this “unchecked borrowing spree” will fall squarely on future generations. “The repercussions of the government’s misguided economic policies may not be visible immediately, but they will directly impact the lives and futures of the people of Madhya Pradesh,” he said.
Criticising what he called the government’s “extravagant spending”, Patwari alleged that the Chief Minister’s foreign tours alone are costing nearly Rs 3 crore per day, with crores more spent on flowers and stage decorations during official events. He added that the Chief Minister spends around Rs 25 lakh daily on air travel, even as farmers face crippling debt and youths grapple with unemployment.
