Bhopal: The newly constituted state executive of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Scheduled Caste (SC) Department formally assumed charge at a dignified ceremony held here on Saturday. Several senior Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh, former ministers Surendra Chaudhary and Mahendra Bauddh, and Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari, were present.
Addressing the gathering, Patwari alleged that the BJP government was undermining constitutional values, social justice and equality championed by Dr B R Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi. He said Rahul Gandhi was leading a nationwide movement to protect the Constitution and democratic rights. Patwari added that the Congress remained committed to the ideals of Savitribai Phule and to empowering the marginalised.
The party also issued a strong warning to the state government over the recent Indore incident, demanding the resignation of minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and an FIR against the mayor. It announced a democratic agitation in Indore on January 11 if action was not taken.
Digvijaya Singh alleged that land pattas given to Dalit and tribal families during the previous Congress regime had been illegally taken over by BJP leaders. SC Department president Pradeep Ahirwar strongly condemned incidents of insult to Dr Ambedkar, asserting that the party would not tolerate any disrespect.
