Cong demands urgent relief for rain-hit farmers in MP

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Congress has raised serious concerns over the devastation caused by continuous heavy rainfall across the Gwalior-Chambal region, particularly in Dabra, Bhind, Shivpuri, Karera, and Datia districts. Congress Media Department President Mukesh Nayak criticised the government’s inaction and called for immediate compensation and damage assessment.

Nayak reported that more than 200 villages, including Sevdha, Bhander, and Datia blocks, have suffered severe crop losses. Oilseed and pulse crops have been destroyed in many areas, leaving already debt-ridden farmers in deep distress. He also highlighted the collapse and damage of hundreds of homes in both rural and urban areas, yet no substantial steps have been taken by the administration.

He questioned why the Revenue Department has not deployed survey teams despite visible destruction and demanded that assessments be conducted promptly under the Revenue Book Circular (RBC) norms. The Congress party is also calling for relief camps, loan waivers, and farming support for affected families.

Nayak warned that if the government fails to act swiftly, Congress will launch a public movement. “The farmers are forced to re-sow at extra cost. The government must ensure immediate and fair compensation,” he said.
