Bhopal: A delegation of senior leaders of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, led by state Congress president Jeetu Patwari, on Thursday met officials at the Election Commission office in Bhopal and submitted a memorandum raising serious concerns over alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process.

The delegation included MLAs Arif Masood and Atif Aqueel, former minister P.C. Sharma, media department chairman Mukesh Nayak, Pradesh Seva Dal president Avneesh Bhargava, senior leader J.P. Dhanopia, Bhopal City Congress Committee president Praveen Saxena, Bhopal Rural District Congress Committee president Anokhi Patel, Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation Savita Zaki, spokesperson Sheryar Khan, spokesperson Abhinav Baroliya, spokesperson Vikram Choudhary, spokesperson Rahul Raj and several other party functionaries.

Addressing the officials, Patwari said reports of around 11 lakh new names being added to the voter list, alongside the deletion of lakhs of voters allegedly supporting the Congress, were a matter of grave concern. He termed the process contrary to democratic values and an attempt to weaken citizens’ voting rights.

Patwari further alleged that while Election Commission rules limit the number of objections an individual can file, instances have emerged from several districts where single individuals lodged up to 200 objections, raising questions over transparency.

He also accused BJP booth-level agents, in collusion with some booth-level officers, of coercing voters into filling Form-7. Demanding immediate action against erring officials, Patwari called for a high-level, impartial inquiry and strict adherence to Election Commission norms, asserting that the Congress would firmly defend every citizen’s right to vote.
