Cong attack Govt over farmers issue

Bhopal: At a joint press conference held on Monday at the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee auditorium, senior Congress leaders mounted a fierce attack on the State government over the controversial Land Pooling Act and alleged injustices towards farmers. Among those present were Sukhdev Panse, Vice-President (Organisation) and former minister; MLA Mahesh Parmar; State President of the Kisan Congress, Dharmendra Singh Chauhan; PCC General Secretary and Ujjain District In-charge Amit Sharma; Ujjain City Congress President Mukesh Bhati; and State Spokesperson Rahul Raj.

MLA Mahesh Parmar described the withdrawal of the Land Pooling Act in Ujjain as a “historic victory” for farmers. He said the Act sought to acquire land in nearly 19 villages of the region without consent or adequate compensation. Continuous protests, public mobilisation, marches, and opposition inside the Assembly ultimately compelled the State government to retreat, he said, calling it a repeat of the Centre’s withdrawal of the three contentious farm laws.

Parmar questioned Chief Minister Mohan Yadav directly, asking why the Act was not revoked formally when he met Central leaders in Delhi, and whether the withdrawal applied only to Ujjain or to the entire State. He demanded clarity on whether the Act would be repealed across Madhya Pradesh and whether the earlier fourfold compensation formula introduced under the UPA would be restored.

Former minister Sukhdev Panse accused the BJP government of acting in favour of industrialists while ignoring the rights of farmers. Dharmendra Singh Chauhan highlighted Congress’s legacy of farmer-friendly policies, including loan waivers and enhanced compensation norms.

Amit Sharma and Mukesh Bhati recounted the widespread resistance by farmers, alleging intimidation attempts by authorities. State spokesperson Rahul Raj posed four pointed questions to the government concerning compensation, amendments to the T&CP Act, procurement policies, and justice for soybean farmers.

Congress leaders concluded that the triumph of Ujjain’s farmers represents a victory for cultivators across Madhya Pradesh.
