Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the state government, alleging that they had committed the “biggest betrayal” of the people in the name of cow protection. Addressing a press conference in Bhopal, Patwari said that those who project themselves as “gau rakshaks” were, in reality, complicit in cow slaughter, the meat trade and policies that benefit it.
He claimed that cow meat remnants had been found in large quantities at the Bhopal slaughterhouse, which functions under the BJP-controlled municipal corporation, exposing what he termed the “false claims” of BJP and the ruling party. Patwari alleged that a zero per cent tax on cow meat reflected the BJP’s involvement in the trade, and further claimed that certificates had been issued for meat exports to foreign countries, including halal meat, with documentary evidence available in the public domain.
Linking the issue to governance failures, Patwari cited the deaths of cows in Indore municipal gaushalas and deaths of citizens due to contaminated water as examples of administrative collapse.
The Congress demanded a high-level probe into the Bhopal slaughterhouse incident, a judicial inquiry into cow deaths in Indore gaushalas, withdrawal of the zero GST policy on cow meat, and a white paper on gaushalas and stray cattle across the state.
